I like to play as many sidequests as I can by joining all the factions. Does
anyone know which factions will have sidequests which conflict and any
annoying situations that joining certain factions might get me into?

If you belong to both the Fighters' Guild and the Thieves' Guild, you
will have trouble finishing on of the Fighters' Guild quests that
requires you to get a code book from a member of the Thieves Guild. I
just ran across a quest in the Thieves Guild which asks you to steal
from the Mages' Guild. This could be touchy if you also belong to the
Mages' Guild. One way to avoid this is to just join one Guild at a
time, do all their quests, become Master of the Guild, then go on to
another Guild. If you do something that gets you kicked out of the
Guild you have already finished, it doesn't matter.

You ever hear of anyone being named Nerevarine without finishing the
quests or ever joining a house or guild?

I managed to to get the code book without any problems. I have a high
persuasion and I just talked to Sottide and she just gave up the book. Mind
you that was just BEFORE I joined the Thieves Guild.

Had you tried it *after* you joined the Thieves' Guild, it would have
been a whole different story. She refuses to give up the book under
any circumstances. You have to either kill her (and get expelled from
the Thieves' Guild) or pickpocket it from her and that is very
difficult.

This can stop you too as there is a fighters guild quest where you have
to kill all the thieves guid bosses. It's possible to reach the top of
all the guilds if you remember that you don't have to do all the quests
from all the questgivers to do it. The only real problem I had was
stealing the codebook. In the fighter's / thieves guilds get to the rank
1 level from the top in both (without doing Hardheart quests) and you
find youself in an interesting position. After pickpocketing the
codebook, just don't take any questionable quests. Go to another
questgiver, either for that faction, or for another guild. I'm top rank
in House Redoran, Mages Guild, Fighter's Guild, Theives Guild, Temple,
Imperial Legion and Imperial Cult. I don't care much for the assassin
stuff so I haven't joined the guild, but I've read the walkthruogh and
see no problem reaching the top of it too. Just go slow and don't get
promotion happy in any one guild and it's not too hard.

Let us quote from the book of Shakti.

http://home.austin.rr.com/shakti/morrowind/mwguide.htm

One way to play through all three houses and get a lot of replay value
out of the game is to play one house and maybe two or three factions
that don't conflict with each other with one character. Then roll up a
second character and play a second house and some different
cooperative factions. Then roll up a third character and play the
third house and the remaining factions. You can mix and match almost
any combinations of factions with a given house, but there are certain
combinations that you should avoid because you will certainly get into
conflicts that prevent you from advancing:

The Mages Guild and House Telvanni - avoid this combination
The Mages Guild and the Temple - avoid this combination
The Temple and the Imperial Cult - avoid this combination
There is no perfect mix of houses and factions, largely because
faction X may like faction Y, but faction Y may not like faction X.
Yes, it's confusing. I spent about a half hour mulling over the
combinations, and my personal choice for house-faction combos goes
like this:

Hlaalu, Mages Guild, and Imperial Legion

Redoran, Fighters Guild, and Imperial Cult

Telvanni, Thieves Guild, and Tribunal Temple

I will be playing a different character for each of those combos. Note
that even if you take a similar approach and play through three times
with 1-house, 2-faction combos like the ones above, you can still
benefit from joining other factions as well. Just don't advance too
far in them. For example, it's very handy to belong to both the Temple
and the Cult with every character, because of the usefulness of their
shrines. If you advance to level 3 (or maybe it's 4--can't remember)
in each, you can use their shrines for free.

Also, the Morag Tong is a special case. They essentially "get along"
with everyone. You can play hired assassin in the Morag Tong with any
other combination of houses and factions.

Some very useful console commands it looks like. I'd made the mistake of
killing a major npc, and was just going to delete that game. Maybe I'll
continue now. thx!
