Discussion:
Mod to join Camonna Tong?
(too old to reply)

I'm playing a Dark Elf thief/assassin/marksman who hates everything
Imperial. So he would rather join the Camonna Tong than the Imperial
Thieves Guild.
Anyone know of any good mods that make it possible to join the Tong?

I know there's a mod that lets you join the 6th House. I don't think that
allowing the character to join the Camonna Tong would make much sense, as
it's pretty much universally stated that they NEVER let outsiders join. You
can, of course, join the Morag Tong, which might be more up your alley than
the Thieve's Guild. Also, you can get Suran Underworld, which has a
criminal organization you can join called the Bloodfang Tong, which is
definitely anti-Imperial.

Incidentally, I never really thought of the Thieve's Guild as "Imperial".
They're pretty independant of the Empire, from what I can tell. Though
Caius Cosades is a member of both the Imperial Blades and the Thieve's
Guild, I think he's something of an exception. The only things that are
clearly Imperial as far as I can tell are the Legion and the Imperial Cult.
Oh, and the East Empire Company if you're playing Bloodmoon.

In game, the Thieves Guild is described as an Imperial Guild. It means that
the Thieves Guild isn't an organization limited to the province of
Morrowind, unlike the Temple, the Great Houses, the Camonna Tong, and the
Morag Tong..

I've read about that one. Seem like something that would fit my
characters. But I can't find it anywhere else than that accursed
Fileplanet/Summit place.

Having reached Balmora and talked to the Camonna Tong guys there, they
confirm that they can easily spot a Dumner not native to Morrowind.
So I guess that makes sense. Too bad you can't play play a native Dunmer.

More yes, but not the optimal "home" for my guy.

That sounds promising, but it will probablt be some time before I reach
Suran. First time I played, as an Imperial warrior type, it was the
*last* city I visited.
I also have Haldenshore installed, in which there is another Thief Guild.
Unfortunately the lock to their hideout was too complex, when I visited
the place first. But now I have aquired a Grandmaster Lockpick, so it
should be no problem when I return.

Heh. You can easily take the Silt Strider from Seyda Neen, Balmora, Molag
Mar, or Vivec to get to Suran, so it's not like it's out of the way. Don't
let that stop you from playing Suran Underworld, which many consider to be
among of the best of the 3rd party quest mods. The first several missions
are quite simple as well, though it gets QUITE difficult later on, far more
difficult than any of the default Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon missions. I
still say that there shouldn't be any problem with joining the Thieve's
Guild. They may have allies among the Imperials, but they're still, well,
THIEVES... They're criminals. It's not like they support the King or
anything like that.

Of course, my way of playing has always been to join as many factions as I
possibly can. If you could join all three great houses, I would. (I have
one character for each house, though the guy I made for the Redoran house
hasn't actually joined yet, and he's almost lvl 60, so that might not
happen...)

If you're looking for a truly interesting way to play, however, why not try
NOT joining the Blades? Or if you already have, just stop doing any work
for them. You can still complete the main mission if you kill Vivec and
take Wraithguard from his corpse, and all that stuff about being declared
Hortator and Nevarine by the Great Houses and Ashlanders is really not
necessary to completing the game. You might also consider becoming a
vampire. There's three clans you can join with them as well. Or you could
do Bloodmoon and become a werewolf. (Can you be a vampire and a werewolf at
the same time? Hmm...) I haven't really tried any of these yet, but if you
really want to do an "evil" character, there are ways to do so. (Note, if
you choose to do the vampire thing, I hear there's several great mods for
that which really expand on the vampire story line, which I understand is
somewhat limited in default Morrowind...)

How on earth do you have the patience to stick with a character that
long?? I normally get bored and re-start by mid-30s.

Absolutely. I don't think any of my last four characters joined them. I
highly recommend the "Alternate Beginnings" mod, btw, which lets you
start in a selection of different locations instead of Seyda Neen every
time and doesn't start the main quest line at all. Beginning your game
drowning in a shipwreck at sea with sod all equipment makes a refreshing
early challenge!

It was my first really successful character, so I just kept going because
there was always more stuff to do. I made a bunch of self-imposed
challenges for the character, like once he reaches 100 skill in any weapon
type, he can never use that type of weapon again. He maxed out Long Blades,
Blunt, Axes, and Spears, and is now stuck to only using Short Blades and
Marksman weapons. I suppose when those max out, he'll have to start using
Destruction magic. (Not about to go HTH all the time, that just sounds
tedious.) Likewise, once he reached 100 in Medium Armor, he stopped wearing
medium and now only wears Light Armor. He's also been working on stealth
tactics for a change of pace. I have several mods that make the game still
quite challenging even at that level. The only problem is that I think the
longer you play a character, the more likely you are to crash to desktop.
More world mapped = larger save file = more ram needed.

I've only tried the werewolf thing once, and I really didn't like it. I
only got the ability from Hircine's Ring, which you get pretty much after
finishing the main quest in Bloodmoon unless I'm mistaken. But not being
able to heal while in WW mode seemed to be a serious problem. Not to
mention no picking up objects and all that mess. I hope vampires are not so
restricted. I've yet to try them. (I assume they're not, since there are
several items designed specifically for vampires which I've seen on the FAQ
sites, so they must be able to use them...) I only regret that you can't do
the vampire thing after you've been cured of Corprus...

Yup, didn't appeal to me either.

I haven't tried it yet either but may well do with my current character.
I've got a list of recommended vamp mods somewhere, I gather they're not
so great in unmodded form.

I think you can still do it if you get a spell/item of "weakness to
common disease on self" and then fight a vampire

Sounds good; vanilla MW is just too easy, even with self imposed
restrictions. I never use trainers, for instance.

I prefer not to join too many guilds in order to increase the replay
value.

That's what I'm doing in my current game.
I have installed a mod (not sure which one) that let's me join a Dunmer
equivalent to the Blades.

I have several Vampire mods installed, so that is certainly something I

He could be go just to visit Desele's House of Earthly Delights... You'd
still have to do a little exploring in the city to find one of the entrances
to the sewers where most of the mod takes place, though...

Your warrior didn't want to hunting for Umbra then? I'll second the vote

20+ at least to stand a chance after the first quest though.

IIRC there's a guy in the tavern in Haldenshore who can be talked into
giving you the key to the hideout. I quite liked this mod, certainly
more than Havish, but I'll never learn to love Jog's obsession with
timed quests. YMMV.
