Anyone besides me see the Guild Guide in Ald'ruhn disappear midway
into the game?

The effect is that you can transport into Ald'ruhn but NOT transport
out via the Mage Guild. Very strange...

Tried that tonight - the console said "actors reset" - but still no
guild guide...

Then you will have to do it the hard way. Go to that spot where you want
the Guild Guide to stand, open the console and enter:

placeatpc erranil 1,1,1

This will place Erranil the Guild Guide on the spot of your current
location.

The amusing thing is that you don't have to place Erranil in the
"transport pad" at Ald'ruhn- you can place her anywhere, and
she'll still work.

For instance, Erranil has been hired on as receptionist at Abu
Manor. It's very convenient to be able to teleport to any mage's
guild right after using the transport ring to Abu Manor.

And this can be done with any service provider, as the
service is tied to the person (travel service provider,
guild guide etc) and not to a specific location.

Yes! That happened in the first game I played. I tried the
console command "ra" but that did not restore her so I ended
up continuing without her. However, since then I've played
many other characters and though I always expect to find her
gone, she has yet to disappear from those games. Strange. ;-)

Never seen that, but I got a kick out of the Silt Strider boss in Balmora
falling off his platform! I'd run up there and go, dammit! And then I'd
fall off it and see if I could talk with him while still in midair...

Heheh! In that kind of situation, open the console (~ key),
and type ra to Restore Actors to their original positions. ;-)

yeah, he did that with me as well, clumsy fool. I haven't tried the ra
command yet, I was worried the guy I was looking for (gentleman Jim) had
gone off somewhere else and I had to meet him there for some reason. Does
this command put the actors back where they started or where they need to be
for the story?

the 'ra' command will restore the npc to the default
position - the original starting position

the placeatpc command will place him/her where
you want him to be. The npc that appears will, however,
be a clone, so if it is a companion, his inventory will
be empty, and his stats will have returned to default
values

still struggling, do I just type placeatpc or is there more to it than that.
Has anyone else had the problem of gentleman jim, the head of the thieves
guild, disapearing from his room behind the bookstore in vivec after he
sends you out on his first quest?
Thanks

The console command for (temporarily) bringing back Jim Stacey is

placeatpc stacey 1,1,1

explanation:
placeatpc: the command
stacey: the ID used for Gentleman Jim Stacey
first 1: number of items to be placed (we just want one Jim Stacey)
second 1: distance of the placed object to the player
third 1: direction in which the object is placed (1=in front of you)

Yes, I had that problem, too. When you complete his last quest, an internal
variable switches, so he won't show up again. In fact, the command given
above doesn't change this variable, so you will have to type it every time
you enter Jim Stacey's room.

Hope that helps

RA usually works, but NOT if the NPC died when they fell through the
floor. I had the Orc in Balmora gone, RA'd, and saw her appear before
me, only to fall through the floor again. Alas, she died, and RA did
not work a second time. I think the patches have fixed this a lot, so
if you haven't pathched your game, you might try that.

I don't know what the problem was in my case but it wasn't that.
Anybody know whether the placeatpc method will work for Gentleman Jim
or Eno Hlaalu once you become guild master of their respective guilds?

I would REALLY like to finish the 26 Threads of Mephala quest - I've
never gotten more than 18 of them before he scuppers off. If you do
the quests in the right sequence do you get directed to each of them
the way you did with that female mage in Pelagiad? I mean, I've seen
walkthroughs saying where all the parts are but a couple of them are
with townspeople and I don't want to butcher an entire town just to
get a "thread" - I bet I could but I don't want to!

Yes, placeatpc works with every NPC at any time. But you will have to
repeat the command each time you enter the interior cell that Eno Hlaalu
or Jim Stacey are in, because their respective scripts say that they
have left.

If it is what I think it is then you have started the quest from the Thief
guildmaster in Ald'Hun to get the Devil Tanto blade from the Mage
Guildhouse... he tells you that they have gone away on business or
something.... to get them back you need to complete that task for the
thieves guld, then they return..

hope that helps

That makes all but one NPC in the mages hall disappear until the quest
is done.

But -- I have had just the transport NPC disappear. Don't know why it
happened (theory is that she moved away and got stuck inside a wall or
something like that). The fix for it is to use the console command RA
which resets the NPCs in that area. For me, that got her back.

If you are using Xbox version of the game, there is no console. If
you are using PC version of the game, console is opened by hitting the
tilde key -- ~ -- which is on the upper left part of keyboard. When you
are done, hit that key again.

Uh - that quest is ancient history I'm afraid. I've had the Ald'ruhn
Guide disappear in two separate games so I'm wondering if it's a game
bug or something. The console command 'placeatpc ___ 1,1,1' worked
though I had to do it twice since the first time she fell through the
'transporter pad' and thus died.>
